GMM2012 - Black Sabbath, who were scheduled to close the first festival day on Friday 22 June, have cancelled their performance at Graspop Metal Meeting 2012. Guitarist Tony Iommi’s battle with lymphoma has forced the band to put their European tour on hold. At this time, their only show this summer will take place at this year’s Download Festival.
Black Sabbath will be replaced in the GMM2012 lineup by OZZY OSBOURNE & FRIENDS. Ozzy will perform the majority of the previously scheduled Sabbath dates, accompanied by several special guests: Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, longtime former Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde and ex-Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash are just a few of the friends who will accompany the Prince of Darkness on stage. UPDATE 28-03-2012: the GMM2012 show will include a special Black Sabbath set where Ozzy will be joined by special guest musicians from all the stages of his career, including Geezer Butler, Zakk Wylde and Slash. The show is bound to be one of the highlights of this year’s festival. “These are the first gigs where I’ll be joined by ‘special guest’ musicians from all the stages of my career,” OZZY says. “I’ve never done this before and it goes without saying that I’m really looking forward to these shows.” These “first ever” OZZY OSBOURNE & FRIENDS shows will include a special BLACK SABBATH set where OZZY will be joined by the group’s legendary bassist, GEEZER BUTLER, in a show of support for their friend and fellow band mate Tony Iommi. “Of course I really wish that Tony was joining us for these shows,” GEEZER says. “But I must admit that 'I'm really looking forward to getting on stage again. It’ll be very interesting to play with a variety of musicians, which is going to keep me on my toes.” In addition, OZZY’s long-time former band member Zakk Wylde will join him for a variety of songs throughout each night’s performance. Long-time collaborator and friend Slash will accompany OZZY at select shows along the trek.
