Death Metal

Two little birds called Huginn and Muninn told us Amon Amarth are set to land in Dessel for the sixth time. Named after J.R.R. Tolkien’s infamous Mount Doom, Amon Amarth refer to their music as melodic death metal in spite of the Viking-inspired lyrical content. Their first full-length effort ‘Once Sent from the Golden Hall’ (1998) gave them their first opportunity to tour with big names such as Deicide and Six Feet Under. Riding the waves of this initial success, they released two more albums in quick succession with ‘The Avenger’ (1999) and ‘The Crusher’ (2001); the following year they razed the US. Their last GMM set showcased ‘Jomsviking’ (2016), their first concept album, which tells a tragic story of love and revenge. As Amon Amarth’s reputation and popularity continue to grow their stage productions become ever more impressive. Three years ago two dragon’s heads dominated the stage so we’re excited to see what they come up with this time. (#GMM19)
