Biography

Blues Pills’ 2014 debut sounds like a seasoned band firmly rooted in the 60s and 70s. The American-Swedish-French quartet plays well-thought-out, soulful and bluesy rock reminiscent of the heady days of Aretha Franklin, the 60s incarnation of Fleetwood Mac, early Led Zeppelin and there’s a smidgen of Jimi Hendrix or even Cream in there as well. Elin Larsson’s voice is reminiscent of Janis Joplin: wispy and brittle one moment, full-bodied and powerful the next, while groovy bass lines and drums lay the groundwork for the seemingly off-the-cuff solos of Dorian Sorriaux. It’s been five years since Blues Pills’ youthful enthusiasm lit up a packed Metal Dome and they’ve certainly made strides since then. Their sophomore outing ’Lady in Gold’ (2016) is a more than worthy successor to their debut and if you don’t know Blues Pills yet the live version recorded in Paris in 2017 will be more than enough to make you a believer.
