Death Metal

Do you like death metal? Are you into power metal? Or are you more of a thrash maniac? Children of Bodom combines all three into a signature mix that is instantly recognisable. Lifelong friends Alexi ‘Wildchild’ Laiho and Jaska Raatikainen formed the death metal outfit Inearthed, changing their name to Children of Bodom when they signed their first major record deal. ‘Something Wild’ dropped shortly after and things took off from there. The release of ‘Follow the Reaper’ (2000) signalled their big breakthrough and all subsequent releases have emulated that success. 2003 was a vintage year for COB as they embarked on their first world tour in support of ‘Hate Crew Deathroll’. The album also initiated COB’s search for more mainstream success, a process that deepened on ‘Are You Dead Yet?’. It wasn’t until ‘Halo of Blood’ (2012) that the band resurrected the fearsome fast, riff-fuelled approach of their earlier work – much to the satisfaction of long-time fans. By the time you’re reading this their 10th studio album should have dropped so there are new tracks to look forward to at GMM2019. (#GMM19)
