The music of Culture Abuse is extremely difficult to pigeonhole. It’s tempting to label the San Francisco based quintet a skate punk/hardcore outfit but their taste in music stretches way beyond the aforementioned genres. Their full-length debut ‘Peach’ (2016) is the perfect illustration of their tendency to play around with influences, genres and instruments such as keyboards and strings. Their music sounds versatile, adventurous and – above all – interesting. The same goes for David Kelling’s vocals that range from angry growls to fuzzy wails. If you like punk that pushes the boundaries then Culture Abuse is a must-see. (#GMM18)
