Thrash Metal

When thrash emerged in the early 80s Germany proved extremely fertile ground with its own version of the Big Four: the Big Teutonic Four are Kreator, Sodom, Destruction and Tankard. Destruction formed in 1982 and following two EPs their full-length debut ‘Infernal Overkill’ hit the shelves in 1985. Although the band members were still teens at the time, their debut and follow-up ‘Eternal Devastation’ (1986) paved the way for ‘Release from Agony’ (1988). Despite the obvious quality of the music, Destruction’s technical thrash failed to achieve lasting commercial success. Internal strife led to vocalist/bassist Schmier being fired from the band and they even had a spell in the 90s where they no longer had a record contract. The remaining members adopted a more progressive course and with Schmier’s return to the fold in 1998, Destruction recaptured its old school vibe; the 2019 addition of new lead guitarist Damir Eskic gave them a fuller sound and additional live striking power. In 2021 jaws dropped when co-founder Sifringer decided to call it quits. Schmier promptly recruited rhythm guitarist Martin Furia who made his first contribution shortly afterwards on the single ‘State of Apathy’ and subsequently on the live recording ‘Live Attack’. Their new studio album ‘Diabolical’ is set for an April 2022 release. Add in the fact they are celebrating their 40th anniversary and you’ll know why we we’re so excited to have them on the line-up.
