Biography

Formed in Oslo back in 1993, Dimmu Borgir are one of the progenitors of the symphonic black metal scene. In 2018 they ended an eight-year recording dry spell with ’Eoninan’ – that’s not taking into account their live DVD/album ‘Forces of the Northern Light’ with a full symphonic orchestra (2017). In interviews they indicated that in terms of riffing there are similarities with their older albums and the new disc pays tribute to their black metal roots. The disc also revives the collaboration with Norway’s famous Schola Cantorum choir. New members Daray (drums) and Gerlioz (keyboards/synthesizer) didn’t contribute to the songwriting process on the new CD but the fresh blood the new recruits have infused into the band is more than welcome. At GMM2020 the flagbearers of Norwegian black metal will present a mix of new and old material as they headline the Marquee. (#GMM20)
