Heavy Metal

United States

Founded in 1994, the alternative heavy metal band Disturbed first garnered widespread international attention with their hit ‘Stupify’. However, this was just a small taste of the success to come because five of their seven albums to date have shot straight to number one on the Billboard 200. When Disturbed announced they were taking a break back in 2011, their future hung in the balance as the members focused on other projects. Released in 2015, ‘Immortalized’ was the band’s sixth album and it had all the ingredients that have made them so popular with their fans: Draiman’s typical roaring vocals, socially engaged lyrics, chunky riffs and booming drums. The worldwide success of their Simon & Garfunkel cover ‘The Sound of Silence’ has allowed them to put their softer side on display: the ballads on ‘Evolution’ (2018) appeal to a wider audience and may well propel them into the category of bands that sell out stadiums. Who said there were no new headliners on the horizon? (#GMM20)
