Biography

This Dutch death metal act was founded by Henri Sattler in 1991. Their debut ‘The Christhunt’ was not well received and they soon went on hiatus, due in part to internal struggles. Sattler revived the band in 1996 and the new line-up recorded their successful sophomore album ‘The Grand Grimoire’ (1997). Initially, the lyrical themes were anti-Christian but especially on later releases, the focus shifted to the two world wars that ravaged Europe and parts of other continents in the first half of the 20th century. God Dethroned disbanded in 2012 only to reform in 2014 when Sattler agreed to join the 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise. GMM is one of the few festivals they’ll be playing this summer so count yourselves lucky. (Text: Stef Maes This Dutch death metal act was founded by Henri Sattler in 1991.
