Halestorm was founded by the brother-sister team Lzzy and Arejay Hale when they were 13 and 10 years old, respectively. Based in Red Lion, Pennsylvania, the siblings’ dad assumed bass duties in the early years. Their second album ‘The Strange case of...’ (2012) included the Grammy Award-winning track ‘Love Bites (So Do I)’. The band’s third album ‘Into the Wild Life’ epitomises what Halestorm is about. It’s a collection of honest rock songs with a feel that hearkens back to the 1980s, an era when Autotune was still a distant nightmare. The line-up has been stable since 2003, with Joe Hottinger and Josh Smith in addition to the Hale tandem, and this certainly hasn’t hurt the consistency of their output. On ‘Into the Wild Life’ (2015) they set a high standard for themselves with four mainstream rock hits. ‘Vicious’ (2018) helped Halestorm force a definitive breakthrough in Europe. Lzzy has described their most recent outing ‘Back from the Dead’ (2022) as “a journey of navigating mental health, debauchery, survival, redemption, discovery, and still maintaining faith in humanity” but above all it is the best collection of songs they’ve put out yet. #GMM23
