Originally formed by Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner, LA grunge/rock band L7 released their self-titled debut in 1988 but it wasn’t until 1992 and the release of ‘Bricks Are Heavy’ that they became truly successful. Music magazine Rolling Stone even included the album in its essential recordings list of the 1990s. Single ‘Pretend We’re Dead’ stormed charts worldwide, catapulting them into headlining status and landing them support slots for the likes of Faith No More. L7 folded in 2001 but returned to the live circuit in 2014. In September 2017 they released a new single for the first time in ages: ‘Dispatch from Mar-a-Lago’ leaves no doubt as to how they feel about their current president. Two years ago they raised hell in the Metal Dome and last year they surprised us with ‘Scatter the Rats’ (2019), their first studio album in two decades. Once upon a time they may have pretended to be dead but they’re very much alive! Time to welcome back a band that made Metal Injection’s list of all time heaviest grunge bands. (#GMM22)
