Thrash Metal

United States

Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Lamb of God are responsible for eight groundbreaking albums, with record sales in excess of two million copies in the US alone. They also have a strong following in Europe and the fact that LoG band members have worked with the likes of Dave Grohl, Max Cavalera and Dave Mustaine is testament to their musicianship. As we’re writing this they are opening for Slayer on their farewell tour. Once hailed as one of the leading bands of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, Lamb of God’s music has been described as a mix of thrash and death metal with a shot of metalcore. Pantera-style power groove was a strong influence throughout the noughties and ‘VII: Sturm und Drang’ (2015) was universally greeted as their best work in years. Fuelled by the spectre of what might have been if frontman Randy Blythe had been incarcerated on trumped-up manslaughter charges, the album conveys an urgency some claim was lacking from their more recent efforts.
