Biography

Few black metal bands have taken the underground scene by storm like the Icelandic berserkers from MisÞyrming (‘Abuse’). Originally conceived as a solo project by prolific musician and multi-instrumentalist D.G., Mispyrming soon fleshed out into a full band. Listening to Mispyrming immediately calls to mind the breathtaking but grim and unforgiving Icelandic landscape. Their debut ‘Söngvar elds og óreiðu’(‘Songs of Fire and Chaos’) (2015) sent a shock wave through a scene that was stagnating at the time and was hailed as one of the best atmospheric black metal longplayers of the year. It’s hypnotically melodic from start to finish and incorporates groove and avant-garde elements that give a new twist to the genre’s traditional sound. Together with compatriots Svartidauði (‘Black Death’) and Sinmara they form a powerful trio, ranking among the best the black metal scene has to offer right now. Their sophomore effort ‘Algleymi’ (‘Rapture’, 2019) dials back on the eerie atmosphere of their debut and is even more hypnotic than its predecessor. Certainly one of the most anticipated GMM debuts this year. (#GMM20)
