Founded in 2002, Obscura is a progressive death metal from Landshut, Germany, by Stefan Kummerer, who is also the only remaining founding member. Their full-length debut ‘Retribution’ dropped in 2004 but it was their sophomore release ‘Cosmogenesis’ (2009) that really got things rolling. Obscure embarked on an extensive tour worldwide tour in support of the album, including a number of headlining dates. The lyrical themes mainly centre around the works of famous German philosophers like Friedrich Schelling. The departure of both Christian Munzer and Hannes Grossmann seemed to put the band’s future in doubt but the new ‘Akróasis’ album (2016), the third instalment in a series of four concept albums, easily put such concerns to rest.
