Greece has an excellent reputation when it comes to black metal but also boasts talent in other genres. One of those bands is Planet of Zeus. Formed in the Greek capital of Athens in 2000, Planet of Zeus delivers heavy stoner rock with southern influences and even a dash of funk. It took them eight years to put out their debut with ‘Eleven the Hard Way’ (2008), followed three years later by the well-received ‘Macho Libre’. The radio-friendly ‘Loyal to the Pack’ dropped in 2016 and was their best offering yet. Sometimes bluesy, usually groovy and always entertaining, this album earned these Greek gods of heavy rock a shot at success in the US. Planet of Zeus lists a range of influences from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Mastodon, from The Allman Brothers Band to Queens of the Stone Age, from AC/DC to Clutch. COVID made it all but impossible for Planet of Zeus to promote their most recent – and best – album ‘Faith in Physics’, which came out one year after their 2018 GMM debut.
