Biography

Stone Temple Pilots released their debut ‘Core’ in 1992 in the heydays of grunge, an album that put the San Diego sons on the map. STP themselves have always considered themselves an alternative band and not a grunge band per se. Frontman Scott Weiland ticked every box: not only did he ooze charisma, his performance took the band to a higher level, all the while battling his inner demons like so many of his peers. Personal issues led to the band’s dissolution a decade later and Weiland joined the all-star cast of Velvet Revolver until 2008. STP reformed in the same year and STP played GMM for the first time in 2010. In 2013 Weiland’s demons got the better of him and in that same year the band released an EP featuring Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington on vocals. Subsequently Jeff Gutt stepped in when Linkin Park commitments forced Bennington to quit. Gutt earned his spurs as the throat for Dry Cell and also made a huge impression on X Factor. This summer they’re crossing the Atlantic for the first time in years to showcase their new album ‘S.T.P.’  (#GMM19)
