Few bands are a genre unto themselves but The Dillinger Escape Plan is one of them. Some label their music hardcore, some call it metal and others claim they pioneered the mathcore genre. One thing’s for certain, though: their music is chaotic but very recognisable and unique, which has allowed them to carve out their own niche in the metal scene. The musicianship is top-notch and their live sets are extremely tight and energetic: these guys frequently leave the stage with more bruises than a prize fighter after a ten-round contest. In 2016 fans of the band were left dumbstruck by frontman Greg Puciato’s announcement that Dillinger Escape Plan would be pulling the plug in the foreseeable future. Apparently they want to call it a day while they’re still on top of their game so get ready to give them the send-off they deserve. (#GMM17)
