Biography

Founded more than three decades ago, The Offspring were one of a small circle of bands credited with revitalising the punk rock scene. They achieved a worldwide breakthrough with the hit single ‘Self Esteem’ and their third album ‘Smash’ (1994), the first in a line of commercially successful albums. The more rock-oriented ‘Ixnay on the Hombre’ (1997) was less well-received than ‘Smash’ but still shifted several million copies. Its successor ‘Americana’ (1998) was a more accessible pop punk record and hits like ‘Why Don’t You Get a Job?’, ‘Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)’ and ‘The Kids Aren’t Alright’ catapulted the album into the top echelons of the charts all across the globe. In the noughties The Offspring continued to make an underground genre accessible with headlining slots at festivals around the world. This summer it’s GMM’s turn but first up is the January release of their tenth album. (#GMM20)
