At the start of the millennium, Trivium was one of those bands that were destined to make it to the big leagues. They made their GMM debut in 2006 when they were touring the old continent as openers for Metallica. Meanwhile the fresh young lads have matured into seasoned musicians. Metalcore and thrash influences are obvious in their early work but in recent years they’ve gravitated towards more traditional metal and heavy rock. One of the most notable changes on ‘Silence in the Snow’ (2015) is the total absence of harsh vocals. It was an important record in terms of the band’s future sound but follow-up ‘The Sin and the Sentence’ (2017) is really the first Trivium album to capture the essence of the band’s strong points: the combination of clean and harsh vocals, rousing & fist-pumping choruses and technical passages that would do Maiden proud. The tracks on ‘The Sin and the Sentence’ are perfect for large arenas. (#GMM19)
