Biography

Back in the day Einar ‘Kvitrafn’ Selvik was known as a gifted black metal drummer who earned his stripes beating the skins for the likes of Gorgoroth. However, he felt the irresistible pull of the primordial music which, in olden days, resided at the core of pagan rituals in Scandinavia and other parts of Europe. Slowly but surely, the concept of Wardruna took shape: a musical collective dedicated to creating Nordic music through the use of historical instruments. Einar himself started making musical instruments from such basic materials as goat horns, deer skins, wood and rocks. He recorded nature sounds and created the most organic music you could possible imagine. This resulted in the ‘Runaljod’ trilogy which, over the years, often made us long for an age where a pair of trousers was a novelty and that resounded with the magic of the Futhark runes. On several occasions Wardruna’s music featured in episodes of the successful series ‘Vikings’, with Einar himself making several guest appearances. This certainly hasn’t harmed Wardruna’s popularity so be sure to check them out! (#GMM21)
