British vocalist David Coverdale founded Whitesnake in 1978 following his departure from Deep Purple. Initially they played blues rock in the vein of Deep Purple but in the early 80s they settled on a more commercially oriented course and from then on, Whitesnake’s fan base grew with every new record. In 1987 Whitesnake scored two worldwide hits with ‘Is This Love’ and ‘Here I Go Again’. Despite selling millions of copies of ‘Slip of the Tongue’ (1989), Whitesnake disbanded shortly after the album dropped, only to reassemble in ’97 for ‘Restless Heart’, with Dutch guitarist Ad Vandenberg on lead guitar. In 2002 Whitesnake reformed for their 25th anniversary and from then on they’ve continued to tour and record on a regular basis, resulting in excellent records like ‘Good To Be Bad’ (2008), ‘Forevermore’ (2011) and ‘The Purple Album’ (2015). GMM is just one of the many stops on their world tour in support of their new ‘Flesh & Blood’ album (2019). (#GMM19)
