Founded in 2004, Swedish power metal band Bloodbound first came onto the scene with their 2006 debut ‘Nosferatu’, a gut-wrenching slab of power metal that is bound to appeal to Iron Maiden fans. Despite numerous personnel changes, their sophomore album ‘Book of the Dead’ (2007) forced an international breakthrough for the band. After signing a worldwide record deal with Blistering Records, Bloodbound released ‘Tabula Rasa’ (2009). Not only has the corpse paint been discarded, the album also announces a slightly different musical direction: the choruses are still very melodic but the riffs are heavier and the bottom end is much more prominent. The departure of vocalist Urban Breed also signals a return to the sound of the first two albums on ‘Unholy Cross’ (2011) and 2014’s ‘Stormborn’ continues along the same vein. Bloodbound aren’t trying to innovate. Their strength lies in the fact that their cocktail of tried and tested power metal ingredients tastes better than most.
