Death Metal

The Swiss may be famous for their banks, watches and Swiss cheese but they’ve also made a valuable contribution to the metal world over the years. Not in terms of quantity but in terms of quality: the few bands to come out of the Alpine country have invariably proved influential. Just think of the likes of Celtic Frost/Triptykon, Samael and Coroner. Now we have a new addition to the list with the extreme metal duo Bölzer. A black/death metal hybrid with psychedelic influences is probably the most accurate description of their music but their approach really doesn’t conform to traditional genres. Thanks to their EPs ‘Aura’ and ‘Soma’ they acquired instant cult status but it was their 2016 full-length debut ‘Hero’ that blew the pundits away thanks to the integration of unusual epic vocal lines and an intriguing, warbling guitar sound. What is even more remarkable is the way in which they manage to translate their music to a live setting so give it a whirl! (#GMM18)
