Black Metal

Dutch metallers Carach Angren are on a two-year GMM cycle, wrapping the Metal Dome (2014) and the Marquee (2016) around their bony little finger on both occasions. Carach Angren are undoubtedly the biggest black metal sensation to come out of the Low Countries in recent years. They craft unique compositions born from classical music that are subsequently covered with a black metal sauce. Multi-layered and intricate, their songs are also catchy enough to stick in your head. Factor in their genuinely creepy ghost stories and you’ve got a recipe for success. On ‘This Is No Fairytale’ (2015) they purposely dialled back the symphonic element. A black metal-inspired version of the Hansel and Gretel story, the album solidifies Carach Angren’s growing reputation. As they continue to subtly tweak their sound, for instance through sporadic melodic vocals on ‘Dance and Laugh amongst the Rotten’ (2017), they continue to claw their way to the top of the symphonic metal food chain.
