Biography

Eluveitie (which translates as ‘I am the Helvetian’) are no strangers to GMM. In addition to guitars, bass and drums they also like to use flutes, bagpipes, a harp and a hurdy-gurdy to name but a few. Formed over a decade and a half ago, the popularity of this Swiss pagan/folk metal band has truly soared in recent years. Their music is a combination of traditional Celtic folk music and melodic death metal with obvious Gothenburg-style influences such as At The Gates and In Flames. The nine-piece from Winterthur, Switzerland, couples musical themes from countries and regions such as Ireland and Brittany with lyrical inspiration taken from Europe’s rich Celtic past. The result is a unique blend of metal Eluveitie themselves like to call the new wave of folk metal. Melodic death-influenced folk metal means crushing riffs, catchy melodies and atmospheric folk intermezzos and Eluveitie brings it in spades. (#GMM19)
