Black Metal

Formed in 1991, the Norwegian band Emperor is widely regarded as one of the most seminal black metal bands. Emperor disbanded in 2001 following the release of their fourth album ‘Prometheus – The Discipline of Fire & Demise’. Frontman and figurehead Ihsahn started an idiosyncratic solo career under his own name – playing GMM twice – whereas his old bandmates Samoth and Trym Torson concentrated on Zyklon. Still, they reunited periodically to relive past glory. This summer at GMM Emperor will be playing ‘Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk’ in its entirety to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of its release. This legendary album cemented Emperor’s reputation as the flagbearers of black metal and is still recognised as one of the most influential in the genre. (#GMM17)
