Thrash Metal

There’s so much talk about the Big Four it would be easy to forget about some of the other thrash progenitors. Take Exodus, for instance: the Californian thrashers are one of the pioneering bands of the Bay Area thrash scene. Formed in 1980, they boast an impressive thrash catalogue and their 1984 debut ‘Bonded by Blood’ is a masterclass in thrash. Exodus is also the band where famous axemen Gary Holt (Exodus/Slayer) and Kirk Hammett (Metallica) learned their chops. Throughout Exodus’ 35-year history there have been many line-up changes, the latest one in June 2014 when singer Rob Dukes left after nine years to be replaced with former vocalist Steve Souza. A decade after Souza’s last contribution on 2004’s ‘Tempo of the Damned’, ‘Blood In, Blood Out’ rekindled the vibe of the band’s early years with a collection of classic, balls-to-the-wall thrash tracks that make a lasting impression.
