Played at Graspop Metal Meeting

In recent years Australia has become a force to be reckoned with on the metal scene with bands like Airbourne, Parkway Drive, Deez Nuts and Thy Art Is Murder. Next in line is Northlane. Originally scheduled to appear in 2015, they were forced to cancel due to singer Marcus Bridge’s health problems but they more than made up for that two years later with a blistering set at GMM2017... For a relatively new band they’ve seen their fair share of Europe and the US, opening for the likes of Architects, Veil of Maya and Bring Me the Horizon. This is not their first foray into Belgium either: amongst others they opened for Parkway Drive in October 2014. Northlane combines the natural aggression of hardcore with an innovative metalcore sound, as illustrated by ‘Node’ (2015). In 2019 their fifth longplayer dropped to universal acclaim. ‘Alien’ is heavier than its predecessors ‘Node’ and ‘Mesmer’ and keys into the nu-metal revival of the last few years. While the resulting nu-metalcore is a change of pace for some Northlane stalwarts, it has certainly enabled them to take another step forward in their career. (#GMM21)
