Both Ralf Scheepers and Mat Sinner earned their stripes long before they decided to join forces in 1997. The following year, Primal Fear’s self-titled album stormed the German charts. Sophomore album ‘Jaws of Death’ cemented their reputation on the European mainland and 2001’s ‘Nuclear Fire’ put Primal Fear on the map in the States. In the subsequent years there were a lot of line-up changes but the Scheepers/Sinner tandem never slowed down. Despite being firmly rooted in classic heavy/power metal, Primal Fear have a fresh take on the genre so they never sound dated. Just listen to ‘Unbreakable’ (2011) and ‘Delivering the Black’ (2014) and you’ll know what we mean. Released at the start of this year, ‘Rulebreaker’ is yet another slab of heavy metal as it should be: gripping solos, great riffs, perfect vocal delivery and catchy choruses.
