Psychotic Waltz

Psychotic Waltz
Played at Graspop Metal Meeting

Psychotic Waltz can rightfully be called a cult band. Originally formed in 1986 as Aslan, they changed their name to Psychotic Waltz two years later. Their 1990 debut ‘A Social Grace’ was well-received and the psychedelic influences that would feature more prominently on subsequent albums were already apparent. Their music varies from thrashy to mellow and esoteric while the lyrics chronicle the deterioration of the storyteller’s mental state until only insanity remains. Subsequent albums had more of a spacey atmosphere but their style kept evolving. ‘Bleeding’ (1996) continues the trend of shorter compositions that emerged on ‘Mosquito’ (1994), with virtuoso guitar leads and a wider spectrum of emotions than in their early work. Psychotic Waltz disbanded in 1996 but was revived in 2010 as a touring outfit only… until now. Their fifth album is set to drop in 2017. (#GMM17)
