Afrique du Sud

You can probably count the number of successful South African heavy rock bands on the fingers of one hand. Seether may have African roots but from a commercial standpoint, choosing the US as their new base of operations was definitely the right move. Formed in 1999, Seether forced a breakthrough with ‘Disclaimer’ (2002) .They are very popular in the US but Europe also has a soft spot for this post grunge rock band. Seether was one of the surprises at GMM2014 – in a good sense, of course. Heavily inspired by the likes of Nirvana and Alice In Chains, Seether’s infectious songs bridge the gap between alternative rock and metal. Check out their latest effort ‘Poison the Parish’ (2016), a throwback to the heavier sound and gloomy, dejected atmosphere of their beginnings. (#GMM18)
