Taking Back Sunday is a rock band from New York that formed in 1999. The band’s rise to success coincided with the growing popularity of the emo genre. Their debut ‘Tell All Your Friends’ (2002) did well commercially but life on the road didn’t agree with guitarist John Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper. They left the band but both returned to the fold in 2010. Their sophomore album stormed the Billboard’s Top 200, making them one of the main exponents of the emo scene. Their greatest success came with their major-label debut, ‘Louder Now’ (2006). Meanwhile their musical focus had gravitated from a full-on emo band to a straight-out rock approach. Taking Back Sunday is currently working on a compilation album called ‘Twenty’ to commemorate their 20th anniversary. If you don’t know their music yet, ‘Twenty’ should be the perfect introduction.
