Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats

Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats
Played at Graspop Metal Meeting

The band from Cambridge, England, is the brainchild of singer/guitarist/keyboardist Kevin R. Starrs, who is the only surviving member of the original line-up. Unce Acid’s individual, complex brand of music draws on a number of influences from heavy metal, doom metal and stoner rock to psychedelic rock. Their music has been described as “the original Alice Cooper band jamming in a cell with early Black Sabbath and the Stooges”. More than anything else, though, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats is a unique band with a singular sound that was conceived on their debut ‘Volume 1’ (2010) and reached full fruition on their sophomore and breakthrough record‘Blood Lust’ (2011). Lyrically, the new ‘Wasteland’ (2018) was inspired by the Starrs’ annoyance at fans ‘watching’ the shows through their smartphone screens. The album paints a gloomy picture of a dystopian society were all the inhabitants subsist on the propaganda they’re being fed. Message received loud and clear! (#GMM19)
