Biography
From their high school beginnings in 1997 to the band’s demise in 2013, Underoath were a mainstay on the alternative music scene. They started out as a metalcore band but evolved into a (post) hardcore outfit and finally an alternative rock group. The addition of Spencer Chamberlain for ‘They’re Only Chasing Safety’ (2004) changed the equation as his more guttural vocals put Underoath in the screamo camp, a move that divided long-time fans of the band. The course shift became even more pronounced from ‘Define the Great Line’ (2006) onwards, which featured a variety of influences such as metalcore, emo/screamo and post-metal. Underoath went on hiatus in 2013 but revived in 2015. Late 2016 they accompanied Bring Me the Horizon on their North American tour and now they’re making their GMM debut. (#GMM18)
