Heavy Metal

The road to the top is long and winding and Michael Poulsen knows this better than most. After dabbling in death metal for a decade, he decided it was time to start a new band. Inspired by the likes of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and Metallica, Volbeat’s music is a fusion of heavy metal, rock ‘n’ roll and rockabilly. The accessible, feel-good but nevertheless ass-kicking metal on their 2005 debut ‘The Strength/The Sound/The Songs’ set the tone and less than a decade after opening proceedings in the Metal Dome they headlined GMM for the first time. They continued to perfect their punk/rock/groove/thrash/death ‘n’ roll recipe on ‘Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood’ (2008), cementing their reputation as a versatile rock band with undeniable metal roots. ‘Seal the Deal & Let’s Boogie’ (2016) features more classic Volbeat with high-octane riffs, uplifting music and a Michael Poulsen who still knows how to spin an interesting yarn. There’s more than enough face-thumping, beer-swilling rock to choose from for their sixth GMM appearance so brace yourselves!(#GMM18)
