Biography

By the time frontman Blackie Lawless founded W.A.S.P. in 1982, he was already a veteran of the American metal scene. Lawless, who joined New York Dolls at the age of eighteen, released W.A.S.P.’s self-titled debut in 1984. The album made a big impact, not only because of the controversy surrounding the first single ‘Animal’ (Fuck like a beast), but also with ‘I Wanna Be Somebody’ and ‘Love Machine’. The Crimson Idol tour (2007) featuring the 1992 concept album of the same name is of course legendary and in 2012 they went on a special tour in celebration of the band’s 30th anniversary. Dropping six years after ‘Babylon’, ‘Golgotha’ (2015) is the latest addition to the W.A.S.P. discography. Blackie has rediscovered his faith so all lyrics are written from that viewpoint, but don’t expect to hear a new incarnation of W.A.S.P. They simply continue to do what they do best: write aggressive and fast-paced metal. ‘Golgotha’ is vintage W.A.S.P. so look out for yet another larger than life show.  (#GMM17)
