Biography

Scorpions have announced their retirement on several occasions but the fans are not ready to let them go yet. After more than half a century in the limelight, Scorpions are still a band that captures the imagination of millions of music fans all across the globe. The band is still spearheaded by founder/guitarist Rudolf Schenker who formed the band in 1965 and recruited vocalist Klaus Meine in 1969. Their popularity peaked between 1980 and the early 90s with such hit albums as ‘Animal Magnetism’ (1980), ‘Blackout’ (1982), ‘Love at First Sting’ (1984), ‘Savage Amusement’ (1988) and ‘Crazy World’ (1990), which was their commercially most successfully CD thanks to the world hit ‘Wind of Change’. With career album sales in excess of 100 million copies, truckloads of gold and platinum records and their fair share of N° 1 hits in a slew of countries, Scorpions can rightfully be called a top band. Much has been said in the past decade about their ‘upcoming retirement’ but the symbolic title of 2015’s ‘Return to Forever’ dispelled those rumours for once and for all. With the addition of former Motörhead battering ram Mikkey Dee as a permanent member, Scorpions are ready for yet another sold out tour of the world’s biggest arenas and major festivals. To top it all off, a new album is apparently in the works for 2018. (#GMM17)
