Evanescence forced a worldwide breakthrough with ‘Fallen’, an album that blends heavy guitars, piano melodies and Amy Lee’s instantly recognisable voice. With hits like ‘Bring Me to Life’, ‘My Immortal’ and ‘Going Under’, the American band from Little Rock, Arkansas, rapidly established itself as a household name on the alternative rock and metal scene. On subsequent albums such as ‘The Open Door’ and ‘The Bitter Truth’, Evanescence continued to develop that mix of engaging melodies and powerful guitar work.
Ten years ago Evanescence first set foot on the Dessel plains and last September they rocked Forest National to the rafters with a stunning display of craftsmanship. Next year they are returning to Graspop Metal Meeting for their second performance, as part of our 30th anniversary edition. With ‘Sanctuary’, their sixth studio album released earlier this year, their set list will also include new material. Those who have seen them perform know that classics such as ‘Bring Me to Life’, ‘My Immortal’ and ‘Going Under’ are always among the highlights of the show. On Friday 18 June, Evanescence will close out proceedings on the South Stage. [#GMM27]
