Scowl are the snarling face of hardcore’s new generation. Hailing from Santa Cruz, California, they fuse classic punk fury with a modern sense of urgency and identity. Led by the explosive Kat Moss, the band crash through short, sharp tracks that mix feminist anger, youth disillusionment and outsider pride with no time for compromise. Their 15-minute debut album ‘How Flowers Grow’ (2021) turned heads for its mix of vicious riffs and unexpected moments of softness amidst the screams. What the tracks lack in length, they make up for in impact. Their sophomore outing ‘Are We All Angels’ (2024), however, has a more grungy vibe, features mostly clean vocals and is twice as long as its predecessor. The album blends punk, alt rock and the occasional bit of post-metal into their evolving sound. Scowl’s sets are wild, fast and cathartic, drawing pits and chants in abundance. Whether you’re a hardcore veteran or just looking to let loose to something honest and raw, Scowl are one of the most exciting voices rising from the underground right now. (#GMM26)
