P.O.D. have been around since 1992 and released their maiden album ‘Snuff the Punk’ in 1994. The lyrics soon made them a popular favourite on the Christian rap core scene. Though the album gave them some notoriety as a nu-metal outfit in the vein of Korn, Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach, it was their second album ‘Brown’ (1996) that enabled them to break into the mainstream. At the dawn of the millennium they scored hits with ‘Alive’ and ‘Youth of the Nation’, both off ‘Satellite’ (2001). The album’s seamless combination of nu-metal anger and reggae groove earned it triple platinum status, making it the band’s most successful release to date. The noughties saw P.O.D. experimenting with new influences and genres with varying degrees of success but on ‘Murdered Love’ (2012), their mojo came flooding right back and the vibe carried over into ‘The Awakening’ (2015), a concept album that showcases a variety of styles and tells the story of a guy who conquers his inner demons. Expect cuts off their new ‘Veritas’ album, which is slated for an early May release. (#GMM24)
