Quicksand

Quicksand occupy the fertile ground between post-hardcore and alternative metal, the fulcrum where groove and melody meet angular riffs. Formed in the early ’90s by Walter Schreifels, they made their mark with ‘Slip’ (1993), a record that still sounds fresh today. After a long hiatus, their return with ‘Interiors’ (2017) and ‘Distant Populations’ (2021) showed a band that had matured without losing its edge. Their sound focuses more on rhythm and texture than outright aggression, but the quiet intensity that characterises their output builds over time. Lyrically, they explore themes of introspection and subtle commentary. Quicksand might not be the heaviest band on the bill but they offer depth and groove in spades. (#GMM26)
