Gatecreeper

In 2023, Gatecreeper celebrated a decade of extreme metal. Hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, they are one of the bands riding high on the current OSDM (old-school death metal) revival. In 2014 they grabbed the underground scene by the nut sack with a self-titled EP that called to mind Entombed with a whiff of hardcore added to the mix. Personally they describe their music as a hybrid of death metal, doom metal and hardcore punk. Their 2021 release ‘An Unexpected Reality’ was named one of that year’s top 25 albums by metal and hard rock magazine Revolver. One year later they joined Lamb of God, Kreator and Thy Art Is Murder for several months on the ‘State of Unrest’ tour. Their most recent neck wrecker ‘Dark Superstition’ (2024) offers plenty of chainsaw massacre but also a surprising amount of melodic colour on an otherwise heavy album. Gatecreeper will appeal to Entombed and Bolt Thrower. (#GMM26)
