The NWOBHM giants are sometimes referred to as GMM’s in-house orchestra but they never fail to whip the metal hordes into a frenzy. Formed in 1975, they had their first hit in 1982 with ‘The Number of the Beast’. ‘Piece of Mind (1983)’ and ‘Powerslave’ (1984) followed close behind and solidified their status as one of the world’s leading metal bands; ‘Somewhere in Time (1986) and the underrated ‘Seventh Son of a Seventh Son’ kept the momentum going. Bruce Dickinson’s 1993 departure was a major hiccup but the singer’s return just before the turn of the millennium reinvogorated the band. Maiden’s popularity skyrocketed and for a decade now, captain Bruce Dickinson has been flying the band around the world aboard Ed Force One. Both ‘The Final Frontier’ (2010) and ‘The Book of Souls’ (2015) topped charts worldwide and their career album sales have meanwhile passed the 100 million mark. Four decades into their stellar career they’re still going strong and they’ve even promised a surprise or two for GMM2018... Up the irons! (#GMM18)
