letlive. is undoubtedly one of the odd bands out in this year’s lineup. While this extremely energetic post hardcore outfit from LA has been labelled ‘alternative metal’, ‘experimental rock’ and ‘hardcore punk’, the bottom line is that no other band sounds quite like them. We wouldn’t be surprised if they turned out to be one of the greatest discoveries of this year’s edition. Jason Aalon Butler’s versatile and emotional singing voice harmonises perfectly with the rest of the band but at the same time his aggressive vocals and ditto stage act belie his gentle disposition. Don’t be surprised if Butler’s antics result in injury or he decides to climb the scaffolding. ‘Fake History’ (2010) met with widespread approval and paved the way for ‘The Blackest Beautiful’ (2013), one of the most memorable releases of 2013. Last year saw the band reform to say goodbye to the fans in style. The current blend of original and new members makes a lasting impression with a combination of technical fury and passionate delivery. (#GMM26)
