Originally founded in 1985 by Faith No More chief Mike Patton, the band has cycled through various incarnations in the course of its existence, including a prolonged hiatus between 2000-2019. They are especially famous for their frequent shifts between such music styles as ska, disco, avant-garde jazz, etcetera, often within the space of a single track. Formed in 1985 while the five founding members where still attending school, Mr Bungle was originally a death metal band that segued to thrash and subsequently funk metal in the 90s. Over the years their music has also been labelled alternative rock and avant-garde metal due to the use of unconventional instruments and the wildly varied blend of genres. Mr Bungle folded in 1999 but six years ago they reformed with original members Mike Patton (vocals), guitarist/keyboardist Trey Spruance and bassist Trevor Dunn and new additions Scott Ian (rhythm guitar) and Dave Lombardo (drums). In October 2020 the new line-up released ‘The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny’, a re-recording of an early demo. (#GMM24)
