In the old days Christian metal was a subgenre that was sometimes frowned upon. Fortunately those days are behind us and it’s the music that takes centre stage. They started out in Pennsylvania, US, playing Christian covers to local youth groups. Soon tiring of pop songs,
they started crafting their own, hard-edged tracks , culminating in the release of their first full-length ‘End of Silence’ (2006). The album picked up a nomination for best album at the GMA Dove Awards, which recognise outstanding achievement in the Christian music industry. Musically they like to incorporate elements of alternative rock, nu-metal, post-grunge, hard rock and Christian metal. 2017’s ‘Gone’ introduced electronic elements to their sound, whereas 2020’s ‘Declaration’ relied heavily on their orchestral hard rock and post-grunge leanings. ‘Rated R’ (2023) is their latest studio effort, with string-and-synth driven nu-metal tracks focusing on themes of isolation, socio-political discord, suffering, and perseverance.
