Atreyu are an American metalcore band who originally formed in 1998. In their early days they self-released their work until signing their first record deal in 2001. Their debut ‘Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses’ made an impression on the metalcore scene thanks to melodic, catchy tracks with excellent interplay between ferocious screams and clean melodic vocals. 2007’s ‘Lead Sails Paper Anchor’ revealed another side of the band with more rock-oriented material and blistering Vai-like solos. The band went on hiatus in 2011 but three years later they made a comeback with ‘Long Live’ (2015), an album playing to all of Atreyu’s old metalcore strengths. ‘In Our Wake’ (2018) saw Atreyu foraying into the realms of rock again with their most melodic album to date, restraining the harsh vocals in favour of drummer Brandon Saller’s clean singing. Their latest effort ‘The Beautiful Dark of Life’ (2023) is a melodic and accessible metalcore album with catchy, hook-heavy tracks. Fans of massive breakdowns, intricate guitar work and screamed/clean vocals will highlight Atreyu on their GMM roster. (#GMM24)
