Death Angel are a Bay Area Thrash band that formed in 1982. At the time of their 1987 riff-laden debut ‘The Ultra-Violence’ all the band members were still under twenty. Their sophomore effort ‘Frolic through the Park’came out just one year later. This album foreshadowed ‘Act III’, which showcased the band’s versatility thanks to the use of acoustic guitars and elements of funk and traditional heavy metal. A serious tour bus accident indirectly led to the band’s demise but a decade later a one-off contribution to a Chuck Billy benefit show led to the reformation of Death Angel. Excellent new albums as ‘The Art of Dying’ (2004) and ‘Killing Season’ (2008) proved the old fire had been rekindled. 2016’s ‘The Evil Divide’ (2016) is the epitome of what a modern thrash album should sound like. Mark Osegueda’s layered vocals, the band’s versatility, intense riffing, lacerating solos and overall craftsmanship take centre stage. Act V of Death Angel’s GMM catalogue, this summer. Don’t miss it! (#GMM19)
