One of the cornerstones of Norwegian symphonic black metal, Old Man’s Child have long lived in the shadowy realm where melody and malevolence meet. Founded by figurehead Galder, who for the longest time focused on his work with Dimmu Borgir, the band gained notoriety with albums like ‘The Pagan Prosperity’ (1997) and ‘Revelation 666 – The Curse of Damnation’ (2000), which mixed sweeping orchestral arrangements with black metal ferocity. Lyrically steeped in dark mysticism and anti‑religious themes, their work offers both grandeur and grimness. Though no new work has seen the light of day since 2009, the existing material is held in high regard in the black metal community. Galder’s signature guitar work and icy vocal presence remain central to the sound, and while live appearances are rare, they are always highly anticipated. Needless to say we’re ecstatic to welcome them to Dessel this summer. For those drawn to the more majestic, melodic end of extreme metal, Old Man’s Child remain a vital, brooding force. (#GMM26)
