If your tastes lean towards the grotesque end of death metal, Chicago sons Embryonic Autopsy will feel like home. Their sound is unapologetically brutal death metal, packed with downtuned riffing, guttural vocals and surgical-precision drumming. Lyrically they dive headfirst into medical horror, body horror and grisly imagery, drawing from classic gore-soaked traditions of the genre. Still a relatively new name, the band was founded by seasoned musicians from the American extreme metal underground, including three members from brutal death metallers Oppressor, and that experience shows in the tight execution and no-nonsense songwriting. There is no attempt at mainstream appeal here, no melodic compromise, just dense slabs of violence delivered with conviction. For fans who appreciate tight execution and no-nonsense songwriting. ‘Prophecies of the Conjoined’ (2022) and ‘Origins of the Deformed’ (2024) leave no doubt as to what they stand for. (#GMM26)
